Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center is a 208-bed locked psychiatric
facility for adults battling mental illness. Our highly secure state-of-the-art
IMD facility has a high staff to resident ratio. The Sub-acute Unit
is designed to take patients out of acute and state hospitals. We
provide them with professional high quality care. Since its inception
in 1992, the Sub-acute Unit has successfully transitioned hundreds
of residents to a lesser level of care. The Continuing Care Unit
provides longer-term care for individuals preparing to re-enter
the community. Specially trained staff manages emergency situations
while maintaining residents' safety.
Our innovative incentive program allows clients to transition to
a lower level of care and empowers our clients to take responsibility
for their treatment. The work therapy program enables select clients
the opportunity to gain responsibility for work and be compensated
for their efforts.
Social activities include monthly birthday parties, dances and socials.
Celebrations of a wide variety of multicultural and ethnic holidays
give clients the opportunity to experience the traditions, food,
and music of many cultures. We offer a variety of excursions including
trips to the beach, restaurants, movies, amusement parks and museums.
Clients are eligible for off-site passes 30 days after admission
contingent upon appropriate behavior.
Visits from family and friends are encouraged. Family members are
welcome to attend our monthly educational support group or individual
therapy sessions to assist with developing more effective coping
skills.
Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center is a member of C.A.H.F.
and A.H.C.A. The Department of Health Services and the State Department
of Mental Health inspects our facility annually and we have consistently
maintained or exceeded the standards set for by Title 22, OBRA and
OSHA.
Sylmar Health and Rehabilitation Center is a County contracted
facility and accepts MEDICARE and/or MEDI-CAL for ancillary services.
